Audit Scotland director in UK’s top 100 most influential disabled people

Audit Scotland Associate Director Elaine Boyd has been named as one of Britain’s most influential disabled people in the 2020 Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 list.

Elaine, who is responsible for Audit Quality and Appointments and has cerebral palsy, was named in the Business, Finance and IT category of this year’s awards.

A Chartered Certified Accountant, Elaine began working at Scotland’s public spending watchdog in 2002. She sits on Audit Scotland’s Disability Confident Working Group, is Vice-Chair of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants’ Scotland Committee and is Treasurer at Cerebral Palsy Scotland.

Outside of work and her volunteering, Elaine has learned to fly, ride horses and ski; refusing to allow cerebral palsy to limit her life.

Elaine said: 

I feel really humbled to be named in this list and hope that it helps others to focus on what you can do. There can be such low expectations for disabled people.

I have always been determined to achieve things and challenge some of the perceptions of disabled people. Disabled people are often very good problem-solvers; if you can work out the solutions to the barriers you face, you can achieve the goals you set yourself.

Elaine’s influence, her commitment to quality and the inspiration she provides to colleagues is something that we all see and feel within Audit Scotland. This award is thoroughly deserved for the huge amount that Elaine does here and as a volunteer.
