Audit Scotland kicks off fundraising for new corporate charity

Audit Scotland is off to a fantastic start with fundraising for its new corporate charity, which supports the lives of people dealing with a brain tumour and their families.

The public spending watchdog has raised around £700 for the Brain Tumour Charity since staff voted to make it the organisation’s corporate charity in late 2016.

Audit Scotland had previously supported dementia charity Alzheimer’s Research UK, and after three years of fundraising handed over a cheque for an impressive £7,698.45 in February. Staff did such an excellent job with their fundraising efforts that the charity plans to use Audit Scotland as a good example of a corporate fundraising team.

Audit Scotland kicked off its fundraising for the Brain Tumour Charity by taking part in the charity’s #Wearitout campaign in March. A fantastic £708 was raised, after Kids from Edinburgh’s Wardie Primary After School Club and the 14th Motherwell Rainbows and Brownies created a colourful range of bandanas for Audit Scotland to sell across its offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. A bake sale and raffle also boosted the final amount raised over the two days of activities.

Geraldine Pipping, Director of Fundraising at the Brain Tumour Charity, said: “We’re delighted to have been selected by the team at Audit Scotland as their charity partner. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s and survival rates have not improved significantly over the last 40 years. We’re leading the way in changing this by fighting brain tumours on all fronts.

“Audit Scotland’s support over the next two years will make a huge difference to those affected by this devastating disease. We receive no government funding and rely 100 per cent on voluntary donations, so it’s only through the efforts of companies like Audit Scotland that we can change these shocking statistics in the future.”

Future fundraising events in the pipeline include a pub quiz and three relay teams taking part in May’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival.  The keen runners (pictured below) are hoping to raise over £1500 and have set up a Just Giving page for donations.
