Bruce Cartwright starts term as Audit Scotland chair
Bruce Cartwright has taken post as the new chair of Audit Scotland's Board.
Bruce is a chartered accountant and has significant leadership and governance experience in public audit and accountancy. He joins Audit Scotland after eight years as chief executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and is a former partner at PwC.
Bruce said:
This is a particularly important and exciting time to join Audit Scotland. We are at a pivotal moment for Scotland’s public services, as the public sector enters a period of potentially its biggest changes since devolution. Public audit in Scotland has a key role to ensure that public money is well spent to meet the needs of Scotland's people. It supports elected representatives to hold decisionmakers to account for the delivery of reform, and helps Scotland’s people understand the impacts on them. It is imperative we deliver on that role over the course of this Parliament and beyond.
At the same time, public audit in Scotland is undertaking its own ambitious drive of modernisation and continual improvement. This aims to ensure we continue to deliver high-quality, independent scrutiny of public spending, and can maximise the significant changes in how we work and the technology we use.
Bruce succeeds Colin Crosby OBE, whose term as chair ended on 30 September.
