John Cornett appointed new President of CIPFA Scotland

Audit Scotland’s John Cornett has today (Monday, 16 June) been confirmed as the new President of The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) Scotland.

The Executive Director of Audit Services has been Senior Vice President for the past two years and succeeds Joanne Brown as President. He will serve a two-year term, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to public service and professional excellence.

John said:

I am honoured to serve as President of CIPFA Scotland. The CIPFA qualification has been a defining theme throughout my career. Membership is about more than technical expertise, it is about contributing to a community that supports, challenges, and inspires.

The visions of CIPFA and public audit in Scotland are closely aligned in our commitment to support innovation and excellence in public financial management and promote high standards of governance and accountability across the public sector.

I look forward to strengthening and championing those connections between the two organisations in my capacity as President.

John qualified with CIPFA in 1997 and was elected a Fellow Member in 2018. His career in public sector audit spans over two decades, including roles at the Audit Commission and KPMG.

As Executive Director of Audit Services in Audit Scotland, he oversees financial audits for more than 150 public bodies and leads the organisation’s largest business group.
