New Executive Director of Performance Audit and Best Value appointed

Alison Cumming has been appointed Executive Director of Performance Audit and Best Value at Audit Scotland, leading our high profile programme of national reports.

Alison has significant experience in leadership and policy in the public sector, ranging from tax policy to health finance to early learning and childcare, as well as being a chartered accountant and formerly an auditor. She is currently the Director of Budget and Public Spending at the Scottish Government.

Alison said:

Public audit has a crucial role to play in driving improvement and supporting public services to meet the challenges that Scotland faces now and in the future. I am delighted to be appointed and to have the opportunity to lead and shape Audit Scotland’s performance audit programme. By investigating and reporting on the key issues facing public spending and services, we can drive important changes and have a positive impact on the lives and outcomes of Scotland’s people and communities.

Audit Scotland Chief Operating Officer Vicki Bibby said:

Alison brings a breadth of experience and knowledge and has a strong track record in leadership and the shaping and delivery of public services. We are looking forward to her joining us and helping us deliver our vision that public money is well spent to meet the needs of Scotland’s people.

Alison will join Audit Scotland in September. She is succeeding Antony Clark, who is retiring after more than 30 years in public audit in Scotland and England.
