Publication: Fighting the silent killer - Optimising ovarian cancer management in Scotland
Survival from ovarian cancer is poor in Scotland, with less than 30% of women surviving five years after the disease is diagnosed. To help improve survival prospects in Scotland, a best practice guideline for treating the disease was published in 1995. The Accounts Commission found considerable variation in the extent to which trusts have implemented the ovarian cancer guideline and is urging the NHS in Scotland to make more progress in implementing the national guideline to ensure that all patients receive the best possible treatment.
