Publication: Environmental services - Performance indicators 1999/2000
The report highlights that despite continued efforts to improve Scotland's record on recycling household waste, councils still sent 93% of waste to landfill in 1999/2000. Only about 5% of our household waste was recycled in 1999/2000 and about 2% was used in other ways, mainly for the recovery of heat and power. Orkney Islands was the only council not to use landfill to dispose of any of its household waste, using nearly 80% of it to recover heat, power or other energy. Shetland Islands, Angus and Dundee City all reported that they disposed of less than 70% of their household waste by use of landfill.
